While it’s considered good manners in America to show up for a dinner with a bottle of wine as a gift for your hostess, it’s considered quite the opposite in Germany. Because many Germans are proud of their wine cellars, bringing a bottle could be viewed as an insult to your host and a sign that you don’t believe he can adequately provide you with a good wine.
