6. More than 5,100 maritime species have been found in Guam.

The island of Guam is surrounded by a limestone plateau which gives support to a great many different reefs. Because of the ocean water, the health of these coral reefs, and the conditions of the ocean around the island, scientists in Guam have discovered over 5,100 different species in the ocean alone! Among these huge numbers includes as many as 300 different types of stony corals and near 1,000 different ‘nearshore’ fish.
