Everyone has heard a horror story or two about traveling on a cruise ship. These incidents always seem to have something to do with weather or mechanical issues that were beyond the cruise lines control. First time travelers should be aware that there are plenty of other more common issues that can affect the overall outcome of your trip.

1. Never Swim in Our Wake

When you see promotional pictures for cruise lines they are full of clear skies and blue waters. In reality cruise ships are leaving behind a great amount of waste with each voyage. The average 7 week trip on a medium sized ship can create up to 210,000 gallons of black water, enough to fill nearly 10 backyard pools.
