Why I Only Take Vacations Alone

All of your friends are going on vacation with their special someone. Whether it be someone they met just the other night at the bar or someone they’ve been married to for 10 years, you always feel like you’re missing out by not going on a vacation with a person you care about. Truth is, however, you need to realize how empowering it can be for you to take a trip by yourself.

Both during your vacation and after you get home, you will find the experience to be one that allows your heart and mind to be open. You won’t be criticized by anyone for doing the things you want to do because there won’t be anyone else with you. In fact, going on vacation by yourself means you can do absolutely anything you want, whenever you want to do it. If you want to take a trip to Asia and spend your time volunteering, it’s perfectly OK. If you want to go down under in Australia and hang out with the kangaroos, this is perfectly fine too.

Another great reason to travel by yourself is because it helps you to get out of your comfort zone. Doing this helps you to expand your knowledge about the world. Whether it be going out to eat at a fancy restaurant or going zip-lining, doing these things by yourself will help you to develop a new attitude towards the world. It will help you to see that you don’t have to have someone by your side 24/7 to enjoy life.

Traveling by yourself allows you to meet people you never would have met before. For example, say you go with your boyfriend to Peru and the two of you are having coffee at a cafe. Sitting right behind you is a good looking younger man who is desperately in need of using your phone. But because you have your boyfriend with you who’s six foot three, 280 pounds, the man turns to the lady beside him and asks to use her phone instead because he doesn’t want to take the risk of angering your boyfriend. Come to find out, the man just so happens to be the author of one of your favorite books. Had your boyfriend not been with you, you very well may have got to meet the man who wrote your favorite book.

You can get to know yourself so much better than you ever thought possible when going on a vacation by yourself. Things that you thought you wouldn’t enjoy all of a sudden pique your interest. Many times, after traveling by yourself you will notice that you come home a much happier and exciting person.
Lastly, going on vacation alone will be much cheaper than dragging someone along with you. From saving money on food to hotel expenses and more, all the dollars that you save can be used to enjoy your vacation all the more.
