Hotels From Hell: How To Avoid A Bad Stay

One of the things you want to avoid in your travels is a bad hotel experience. I had one of these once not too long ago and you would think I was making it up if I told you everything that happened. Suffice it to say that everything that could go wrong did, we were locked out of our room, had to change rooms not once but three times! And the hotel clerks were rude, to say the least. And that’s only the beginning of my hotel horror story (wait for the movie to see the rest!)

I hope that my experience will teach you a few things which I have learned about avoiding these “Bates Hotel” experiences.

1. CHECK ONLINE REVIEWS

One of the best ways to avoid disaster when it comes to hotels is to see what other people are saying. Keep in mind though, that it is not enough to hear what people “generally” think about the chain. You need to find out how the local reviews are in the town you wish to stay in. That way you know how the experience was in that locale before you go. If you find a bad review, that may be normal. Not everyone’s experience is the same. But it might be a sign you need to call them and address the issue. Then you can at least hear it from them if the problem has been resolved.
