6. Practice Safe Car Habits

Just because you plan to take the car doesn’t mean you’re off the hook for your pet’s safety. AAA reports that about 30,000 accidents are caused each year by pets roaming around the car unrestrained. Cats and dogs are unaccustomed to sitting patiently in a seatbelt for hours on end. But, the alternative could be heartbreaking. Use proper restraints, and take plenty of breaks to allow your animals time to eat, drink or relieve themselves.
