8. Guam is the island without birds.

When the brown tree snake was introduced in 1940, as we mentioned above, it was an accidental shock to the ecosystem. This snake became the apex predator of the jungle and quickly ate through Guams species of forest birds. Before 1940 there were 12 different thriving species of birds on the island. As of today only 2 of these species still exist and, even then, only in small concentrations. Snakes have truly taken over.
